New Transit introduces innovative diesel mild hybrid (mHEV) technology as an option for manual transmission models. The system uses an integrated starter/generator to recover energy while the vehicle is coasting and stores it in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery. The stored energy is then used to support the engine during normal driving and acceleration, as well as powering the vehicle's electrical ancillaries. The system further helps to improve fuel efficiency, particularly in stop-start urban driving. (Option on FWD/RWD models with manual transmission)
The latest Transit variant, the Transit 5-Tonne is a commercial vehicle that is built to move all kinds of cargo. It has been enhanced to meet the most demanding of conditions with uprated brakes and tougher axles, meaning it is an even stronger version of the standard Transit van. It is also ideal for a bespoke conversion to support specialist customers and transport industries.
The new 5T GVM (payload of up to 2457kg in the van*) is offered in two body styles, two cab sizes, three wheelbases, and four overall lengths.
