A simple approach to EV charging

You don’t need to rely on one charging method. A typical EV driver might:

  • Charge at home overnight for everyday driving.
  • Use public rapid chargers when travelling long distances.
  • Keep a 3-pin charging cable as a useful back-up for occasional or emergency situations.

With an Andersen Quartz installed at home, you have a dedicated place to charge whenever your car is parked at home - helping make EV ownership as convenient as possible.

Standard 3-pin socket – an emergency back-up

A standard 3-pin socket can be used to charge an EV with a portable charging cable, but it’s best suited to occasional or emergency use.

Charging is significantly slower than with a dedicated home charger, so it can take many hours to add a useful amount of range.

For everyday charging, a dedicated home charger is a faster, safer and more convenient option. At W R Davies, we can help you understand the charging options available for your EV.

Home charging – convenient everyday charging

A dedicated 7kW home charger provides faster, more convenient EV charging than a standard 3-pin socket. Simply plug in when you get home and charge overnight, ready for the next day.

Smart chargers can also help you manage charging around off-peak or dynamic electricity tariffs, potentially reducing your charging costs.

Public charging - for journeys away from home

Public charging makes it easy to recharge your EV when you’re away from home, with chargers available at motorway services, car parks, supermarkets and other destinations.

Charging speeds vary, from slower AC chargers for longer stays to rapid and ultra-rapid chargers for quicker top-ups on longer journeys.

At W R Davies, we can help you understand your charging options and find the right EV for your lifestyle.

Why Install a Home Charging Station?

Charge while you sleep
Rather than making a separate trip to find a charger, you can plug in when you get home and charge overnight. Your car can be ready with the range you need for the next day, without having to fit a charging stop into your routine.

Make charging part of your routine
Once your home charger is installed, charging can become as simple as plugging in when you arrive home. Smart scheduling means you can set your vehicle to charge automatically during your preferred hours.

Take advantage of lower-cost electricity
Depending on your electricity tariff, charging overnight or during other off-peak periods can cost considerably less than using public rapid charging. A smart home charger can help you make the most of these lower-cost periods by scheduling charging automatically.

Pre-condition your vehicle
When your EV is connected to your home charger, you can schedule heating or air conditioning before you set off. This means you can step into a comfortably pre-conditioned vehicle while reducing the impact on your battery’s available driving range.

Keep public charging for when you need it
With a reliable charging option at home, public rapid and ultra-rapid chargers can be reserved for the journeys where they’re most useful, such as longer trips and days when you need to add range quickly.

Can I customise the colour of my Andersen charger?

The £999 offer includes the Andersen Quartz 7kW unit in a single-colour Midnight Black finish. If you’d like to upgrade to an alternative finish, you can arrange this directly with Andersen after placing your initial order through your retailer. Additional costs may apply.

Can I charge my EV from a 3-pin socket?

Yes, provided you have a suitable socket and electrical installation and use the appropriate portable charging equipment. However, a 3-pin socket is best considered an emergency or occasional back-up option, particularly when you’re away from home. It charges considerably more slowly than a dedicated 7kW home charge point, making a dedicated charger more practical for regular home charging.

How fast will the 7kW Andersen Quartz charge my EV?

A 7kW charge point can add approximately 25–30 miles of range per hour of charging, depending on the vehicle. For many drivers, this makes overnight charging an easy way to replenish the battery while the car is parked at home.

Is home charging cheaper than public charging?

Yes. Home charging is by far the most cost-effective way to power your EV. By taking advantage of specialised off-peak or dynamic EV tariffs, you can charge overnight for a fraction of the cost of public chargers. While public rapid chargers are great for top-ups on long road trips, charging at home gives you the ultimate combination of daily convenience, maximum control, and unbeatable value.

Can I use public chargers as well as my Andersen Quartz?

Absolutely. Your home charger is designed to make everyday charging convenient, while public charging provides flexibility for longer journeys and occasions when you need to add range away from home.

Can I charge using solar panels?

The Andersen Quartz offers solar compatibility, allowing you to use electricity generated by your solar installation to charge your EV, subject to your home energy setup and configuration.

How long does the survey and installation take?

Andersen EV will reach out within 24 working hours of receiving your order from your retailer. Once confirmed, you’ll complete a simple 20-minute digital survey on your smartphone. Andersen will then book your installation, coordinating it as closely with your new vehicle's arrival as possible. Expect an overall timeline of 2–3 weeks from order to installation, with the fitting taking 3–4 hours on the day.

What is included in "Standard Installation"?

Standard installation includes mounting the charger to a suitable wall, up to 15 metres of surface-run cable connected to your main consumer unit, compliant electrical testing and app setup assistance from an Andersen certified engineer. Your property will be assessed as part of the pre-installation survey, and any non-standard electrical work identified may incur an additional charge. The Andersen team will run through any additional works before booking your installation so you can make an informed decision.

*Terms & Conditions apply. The £999 offer applies to the Andersen Quartz 7kW single-colour unit in Midnight Black, including standard UK home installation and VAT. Custom configurations, premium wood or metal fascias, or non-standard electrical works identified during the survey may incur additional costs payable directly to Andersen EV.
