Dacia is renowned for its no-nonsense vehicles and the new Duster is no exception. Offering excellent value, comfort, and a host of new technologies, this capable SUV is a favourite with good reason. In fact, such is its practicality and flexibility, it’s picked up several awards including the 2017 Carbuyer Best Tow Car accolade.
At first glance the new Dacia Duster may not seem too different from its predecessor. After all, it boasts the same platform and dimensions and benefits from the same rugged styling that ensures it’s prepared for off-road adventures. There are, however, details that have updated the overall look including a striking honeycomb grille and LED daytime running lights.
The upgraded feel continues on the inside, with a restyled centre console focused around a display screen that sits a little higher than before. It provides easy access to music, navigation and phone functions, meaning you can access everything you need while keeping your eyes on the road. You and your passengers can relax into larger, contoured seats too, designed to support through every mile.
Two petrol and a diesel engine are on offer with the new Duster, each of which offers the performance you’d expect from an SUV. As a competent tow car, it has no trouble hauling a trailer, caravan or other load, with the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units delivering the most power. Fuel economy reaches as high as 50mpg too, meaning you won’t find yourself stopping at the pumps too often.
Optional four-wheel drive gives you the opportunity to really discover the great outdoors. Coupled with a high ride height and suspension built to soak up lumps and bumps, it’s as comfy as can be on rougher terrain.
When you’re investing in an SUV there are certain things you expect to find. In-built safety systems that support your drive, whatever the surface, for example. The Dacia Duster delivers on all the essentials when it comes to protection, incorporating stability control and anti-lock brakes as standard, as well as a carefully reinforced body shell that provides optimum impact protection in the event of a collision. Also available is Emergency Brake Assist, which improves the car’s stopping distance, helping to reduce damage and injury upon impact. A set of passive features is also in place, including airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Further essentials come in the form of driver assistance systems. Cruise control, for example, ensures longer drives at high speed are comfortable, while parking sensors make getting into those tighter spaces simple.
